Some projects are guided by intuition and judgement alone.
Iterative sketching, modelmaking and material tests provide answers and direction to a loose idea, elminating all that is unneccessary or not appropriate until the final form emerges.
These are often the most satisfying projects as a designer. The process is one of discovery, as if the object always existed and we just have to find it within the materials, revealing the previously missing object.
With a reductionist approach, a hierarchy of elements is establsihed as the minimal frame leads the eye to the focal point of the object; the light source. The natural tension of the bent steel rod is harnessed to create a hinge for the light head to pivot on.
Made with steel rod, solid ash and aluminium tube extrusion.
